Learn to pray salah, step by step
Learning to pray can feel intimidating at first, but salah follows a clear, repetitive sequence you'll remember quickly. What matters is to start, even imperfectly, and improve each day.
Here are the key steps to pray with confidence, whether you're a new convert or returning to practice.
Before prayer: ablutions
Prayer requires a state of purity: ablutions (wudu) mean washing the face, hands, arms, head and feet in a set order.
Find a clean spot and face the Qibla.
The positions of prayer
Each unit (rak'ah) flows through standing, bowing (ruku'), prostration (sujud) and sitting.
You recite Al-Fatiha then a short surah, with invocations at each position.
Remember and improve
Start by memorising Al-Fatiha and a short surah you understand.
Repeat daily: consistency builds the habit and the calm.
